2000 years. He started his dance career at the age of 12. He started
learning Bharathanatyam at Natyakalalayam for 8 years. Then he moved
ahead to do 2 yrs Diploma in Nattuvangam from Guru Sri. Seetha Rama
Sharma through the Scholarship from Tamilnadu Government’s - Eyal
Isai Nataka Mandram. He got selected for the Sangeeth Natak
Akademi’s fellowship for advance training in Nattuvangam & Vocal for
Dance.
He has also worked with senior Gurus like Sri. K.N.Dakshinamurthy
Pillai from Delhi, Smt.Malathi Srinivasan, and Smt.Usha Srinivasan.
He continued his advance training in Bharathanatyam, Vocal &
Nattuvangam from the legendary Gurus Kalaimamani
Sri.M.V.Narasimhachari & Smt.Vasanthalakshmi. According to Shri. S.
Shivakumar “The training process is based on the student's
competency level. For example in the dance dramas, every student is
provided with a part that highlights his capabilities and develops
his talents. The distinctiveness of this school is seen through its
vivacious choreography, which is a combination of flexibility,
vitality and constant creativity”.
During any performance of Shivakalalayam, one can be sure that all
the life is in motion. We are committed to promote bharathanatyam
and other classical dance forms, among the interested multi-cultural
students. “Our goal is to spread peace, spirituality, culture and
human values to the global audience - very essential elements in the
present environment”.
“One of the distinct features of shivakalalayam’s teaching method is
the creation a learning environment where the students can closely
interact, meditate, encourage and discipline each other, discovering
their individual interpretations and performing styles instead of
blindly copying some "standard" dancer's movements and manners”. The
school offers a diploma degree in Bharathanatyam, besides courses on
Nattuvangam and Vocal music taught by a team of experienced faculty
members.
